HOUSTON  – The Houston Marathon Committee inducted Houston Marathon Veteran and local civic leader Bob Eury into the Houston Marathon Hall of Fame. Eury wias honored  on Thursday,  November 29 at the 2013 Hall of Fame Reception.

“For 30 years, Bob Eury has been a great friend of and tireless advocate for the Houston Marathon Committee, giving generously of his time and offering wise counsel to our leadership,” said Brant Kotch, President of the HMC Board of Directors. “No civic leader cares more deeply for the city of Houston than Bob, and our organization has been fortunate enough to benefit time and again from Bob’s vision, commitment and selflessness.  As if that weren’t enough, Bob has been and continues to be an accomplished runner who will be running his thirtieth Houston Marathon in January 2013.  Our organization is thrilled to be able to welcome such a distinguished, deserving and downright energetic individual into our Hall of Fame.”

Bob Eury’s commitment to the Houston Marathon began almost 30 years ago when he ran his first marathon in 1984. Since then, he has run 29 consecutive races in Houston, making the 2013 edition of the Chevron Houston Marathon his 30th-consecutive run at this event. He currently serves as the President of Central Houston, Inc. and is the Executive Director of the Downtown Management District. Eury recently served as volunteer Chairman of the Houston Host Committee comprised of civic leaders.  Under his guidance, Houston became the first city to host both the men’s and women’s U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon on the same course at the same time.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by the Houston Marathon Committee, organizer of remarkable racing events in every detail,” Eury said. “Through three decades of collaboration with the Committee, I continue to respect its vision, leadership, marvelous volunteers, generosity and unwavering commitment to produce the best run racing events in the world. As a race participant and a civic leader, I am deeply grateful for the impact that the Marathon has had on the sport of running, the health of our community’s citizens and many wonderful charities. I look forward to our continued relationship for many years to come as the Marathon and related events continue to grow and prosper.”

Over the past 40 years, countless people have contributed to the success and growth of the Houston Marathon, from industry and community leaders to humanitarians, athletes and volunteers. To recognize these individuals for their dedication and service to this great event and the sport of running, the Houston Marathon Committee established the Houston Marathon Hall of Fame in 2007.
