PORTLAND, Ore. – For the third year in a row, Runner’s Magazine, a popular German running magazine, selected Portland Marathon one of its top 10 world marathons. Other events listed in the category, include marathons in Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, New York, Boston and Chicago.
Judging for the category is based on the quality and organization of the event following a personal visit by staff of the publication. Other factors include the community involvement aspects of the event, its staff, customer service and swag given to the participants as well as the marathon’s city as a destination point.
“Being named the third consecutive year is a great thrill for our hard working Event Committee,” said Les Smith, Event Director of the Portland Marathon. “We are committed to hosting the best community event possible. This includes helping our local charities, school activities and school team projects. To be equated to the other great marathons named is truly a high honor.”
The Portland Marathon is a non-profit running and walking event that produces Portland’s largest three-day “convention”. The event has a positive $25 million economic impact to the Portland area. Proceeds from the Portland Marathon go to help local schools, charities and non-profits.
