Trell Kimmons (Coldwater, Miss.) has been added to Team USA’s roster for the 2011 IAAF World Championships, August 27-September 4 in Daegu, South Korea.
Kimmons will compete in the men’s 100 meters, an event in which he placed fourth at the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., in a time of 10.04 seconds. Kimmons was the 2010 USA Indoor 60m and Outdoor 100m runner-up and has a personal-best time of 9.95 seconds.
Kimmons replaces Michael Rodgers, who on Friday voluntarily withdrew from the World Championships and accepted a provisional suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, after he tested positive for a stimulant earlier this summer (http://www.usada.org/default.asp?uid=3550). Rodgers had placed third in the 100m at the 2011 USA Championships in 9.99 seconds.
“We are glad Michael has chosen to accept this provisional suspension, which will lessen the amount of disruption to his teammates as they prepare for the World Championships,” said USATF Interim CEO Mike McNees.
Kimmons already was a part of the Team USA roster for Daegu as a member of the 4x100m relay pool.
