Sleet, freezing rain, and impenetrable fog did not stop Thomas Dold of Germany from taking home his record-setting
sixth consecutive victory at the Empire State Building Run-Up Powered by the MMRF on Tuesday, February 1, when he reached the top of the 1,576 steps in 10:10. The previous record of five victories was held by Dold himself as well as Paul Crake of Australia (who also holds the men’s time record of 9:33) and Al Waquie of the United States.
Alice McNamara of Australia won on the women’s side in her first attempt at the feat in a time of 13:03.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation had 100 participants running for their organization, and raised over $250,000. More than 400 athletes competed in the event.
