ST.LOUIS – Brian Holdmeyer, who runs track and cross country for Saint Louis University, won the third GO! St. Louis Halloween 10K, narrowly edging Benson Chesang at the finish line to claim the title. Holdmeyer, 22, from Washington, MO and Benson Chesang were both timed in 31 minutes, 7 seconds. Former GO! St. Louis Halloween 10K champion and two-time GO! St. Louis Half Marathon winner Mathew Chesang took third in 31:10.
Margaret Lyons, who finished third in last year’s race, won the women’s title in 36:26. Lyons was followed by 2009 Halloween 10K winner and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier Julie Lossos, who finished second (36:43). Both Lyons and Lossos are members of the Big River Running Team. More than 5,000 total participants competed in either the 10K or the family-friendly 1-Mile Fun Run.
The fun and festive race attracts both elite runners throughout the Midwest along with thousands of costume-wearing participants, who compete for pumpkin pies as top finishers in their respective age category.
