World Race Walking Cup kicks off in Russia

World Race Walking Cup

A total of 17 men and women will compete for Team USA Saturday and Sunday in the 2012 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Saransk, Russia. The 25th edition of the World Race Walking Cup, competition will include junior men’s and women’s 10 km races along with men’s and women’s 20 km and men’s 50 km races.

Trevor Barron, who was the top American finisher in the 20 km event to qualify at the World Race Walking Cup Trials April 1 and the 2010 USATF Youth Athlete of the Year, will lead the men’s team in that event. Two-time USA Outdoor 20 km champion Maria Michta will lead the women’s team after winning the the World Race Walking Cup Trials in 1:35:57.

Competition begins Saturday with the junior events and men’s 20 km with the men’s 50 km and women’s 20 km on Sunday.
